I have a similar problem with Rhythmbox 0.12.3.. except it's about the opposite. It makes the volume too low.
Not on the first time you play a song... it just lowers the volume slightly. Then each song it lowers it more. After about 2-3 songs the volume is inaudable at usually 0%. I am using PulseAudio, btw. And the Rhythmbox volume setting affects both the application's setting AND the output on my audio card. When you use pavucontrol to look at the volume control you can go to the 'Output Devices' and see the controls for the audio device. When you go to the 'Playback' tab you can see rhythmbox. If you start off at reasonable levels you can click on a song in Rhythmbox and see the volume automatically go down a step for both the Rhythmbox volume in 'Playback' and for 'Output Devices'. After a song or three the volume is essentually muted. Then if you muck around with the volume control in Rhythmbox then the sound gets louder unexpectly or something like that. So something is out of wack here. I don't know if it's a bug with PA or whatever or its a design decision that causes Rhythmbox to affect my output volume or whatever... but it's just wrong. I kindly suggest that Rhythmbox application keeps it's sticky fingers off of my PA output volume. I don't know what the hell it's trying to do, but whatever it is it won't be able to do it right... ever. It's a wrong design to have a application affect the output volume like that. I have the output volume set at that volume for a reason. And that reason is completely external to anything to do with the application. It's impossible for Rhythmbox to ever make a correct decision... Unless Rhythmbox is going to somehow knows the combination of correct settings for PA + 'alsamixer -c0' + the volume knob on my speakers that = good sound with no clipping at the correct volume that is loud enough for me to enjoy, but not loud enough to wake my roomate directly above me at 2 AM in the morning on a workday. ----------- Besides that Rhythmbox seems to be the best it has ever been. It's much more pleasent to use then ever before and the tag editing stuff works well. This volume thing makes it unusable current, unfortunately. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
