Same problem after fresh install of Squeeze/KDE4/french. Found it appears when in KDE/System settings/Country languages/keyboard there is more than 2 active keyboard layouts for some combinations of french and us layouts (for instance fr - us - es). Everything OK with fr first position and us not in 2nd or 3st position. Weird ! I have not tested all combinations ! -- Jean-Claude Leblond
