Package: devscripts Version: 2.8.15 Severity: normal NEWS.Debian files are intended to be parsable as changelogs, but not be formatted like changelogs. The example in devscripts is:
cron (3.0pl1-74) unstable; urgency=low The checksecurity script is no longer included with the cron package: it now has its own package, "checksecurity". If you liked the functionality provided with that script, please install the new package. -- Steve Greenland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sat, 6 Sep 2003 17:15:03 -0500 Note, no bullets, and longer, more detailed and user friendly descriptions of changes. If there were a second entry here it would be in a new paragraph. Lately I've seen some news files that look just like changelogs, and I finally realized that dch --news is probably contributing to this, since it creates a bulleted list of news items. It should lose the bullets and add a new line between each news item instead, hpefully this will encourage people to not enter changelog-writing mode when writing news files. (Also, my multi-maintainer patch to dch needs to become news file aware, and not include maintainer names in news files.) -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.27 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages devscripts depends on: ii debianutils 2.14.1 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii dpkg-dev 1.13.10 Package building tools for Debian ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii perl 5.8.7-3 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii sed 4.1.4-2 The GNU sed stream editor Versions of packages devscripts recommends: ii fakeroot 1.4.1 Gives a fake root environment -- no debconf information -- see shy jo
