Dear Daniel, LXDE fully uses freedesktop.org menu standard. The lxpanel and lxlauncher both really depends on the .desktop file. But not every debian packages provide the .desktop file which made a annoying problem for our users. And other ITP packages such as lxshoutcut and lxsession-edit are also depends on the freedesktop.org menu standard.
However, I don't have any experience on debian menu system. May it works together with freedesktop.org standard?
