Looking at the bug page, you don't have any answer from hal when inserting mass storage stuff (while your card reader seems to work fine?). What gives lshal -m when you insert an usb key or any mass storage device? How is thunar-volman configured? You mention that consolekit isn't installed. Could you try installing it? Because I guess you don't have anymore the hal/dbus permissions which were associated to the powerdev group. Cheers, -- Yves-Alexis
