Package: libsane
Version: 1.0.19-23

When I initially installed the system Xsane and sane-find-scanner did not reveal my scanner at all (HP2400 on USB)

lsusb did show it., however.

I have manage dto get it partially working by downloading latest libsane sources, and once I had the correct development env (you need libusb-dev installed, or the library wont compile with usb support) managed to get sane-find-scanner to work, and , with some third party drivers for the 2400, the scanner now works, but only as root..

Since the current stable package is in fact 1.0.19 which is the source I used, I can only conclude it was mis-compiled?

However, the problem remains that it wants to access a root privileged USB port. So Xane gives an error when running as a normal user.

The key to testing the libsane is to run 'sane-find-scanner -v'.

If that reveals lack of USB support, then the library hasn't got it.

Or is there some other way the current release is suppose to talk to usb?
