Package: wicd Version: 1.5.8-1 Severity: normal I have an AP with a hidden essid. I can connect to it with 'iwconfig eth0 essid hidden_essid'. Wicd doesn't work initially, however, hanging on 'Obtaining IP address'. 'iwconfig eth0' at this point shows 'Essid: <hidden>'. Entering 'hidden_essid' into the 'Network' pulldown causes it to connect. The AP is then shown twice in the Wicd window; this is obviously because it now also appears twice in the output of 'iwlist eth0 scan'. In both places there are now two entries with the same bssid, one with no essid ("" in the iwlist output, and "<hidden>" in Wicd) and once with the correct essid.
Wicd doesn't save the essid; upon restart, or even suspend / resume, it must be reentered. The wireless interface on the client machine is a Broadcom 4318, driven by the in kernel b43 driver. No encryption is in use on the network. This problem, or similar ones, have been discussed in various places: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/250198 http://wicd.net/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=274 http://wicd.sourceforge.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=408 Many of the comments seem to imply that it is related to wpa_supplicant, but as I have stated, I'm seeing the bug on an unprotected network. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-rc3-wl-lizzie-12726-gf917b45 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages wicd depends on: ii dhcp3-client 3.1.1-6 DHCP client ii iproute 20080725-2 networking and traffic control too ii net-tools 1.60-22 The NET-3 networking toolkit ii python 2.5.2-3 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-dbus 0.83.0-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii python-glade2 2.12.1-6 GTK+ bindings: Glade support ii python-gtk2 2.12.1-6 Python bindings for the GTK+ widge ii python-support 0.8.7 automated rebuilding support for P ii wireless-tools 29-1.1 Tools for manipulating Linux Wirel ii wpasupplicant 0.6.4-3 Client support for WPA and WPA2 (I wicd recommends no packages.
