You definitely have a recursion problem in your name service configuration (bug #459972); you should configure the 'name resolve order' option in your smb.conf to not include 'hosts', otherwise all wins lookups will be broken due to this bug anyway. Beyond that, this appears to be a duplicate of bug #509101. Could you please confirm that 2:3.2.5-2 is the version of winbind that you have installed (this is what Josselin marked, but I think he's just guessing based on the current version in testing since nothing in your bug report tells this), and then also check that the winbind 3.2.6 package referenced from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=509101#10 also fixes the problem for you? Christian, since we seem to keep shipping nss_wins in our releases even though I think it implements a bad idea :), we should see if we can get this bug fixed for lenny as well. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world.
