Following that line of thought, are any of your filesystems filling up?
No, of course not. There are 3 GBytes free for /tmp, and much more for $HOME. I watched df while running my test program. There was no indication that any filesystem was filling up. dmesg and the log files showed no problem, either. Writing to /dev/null makes no difference.
