Hi Harald I can hardly see that this is a problem in the vserver-debiantools package. The reason is the following:
1) newvserver use debootstrap for installation 2) newvserver generates a new crontab to reduce peak load 3) cron never looks on the crontab in its pre/post-install scripts to the generation of crontab can not be the problem. So my conclusion is that a) cron installation did not work in debootstrap b) debootstrap do something strange. More precisely what did you do and what was the output during the installation?
