which recommends using "\(aq" as you mentioned. If this really is the
solution, then it appears to be a pod2man problem because I can't find
anything I can do to improve the situation.
I should have read the complete bug report. Apparently this is fixed
in Perl 5.10 to work with C<> and verbatim text blocks (I was testing
with Perl 5.8), but the solution requires me to re-format my manpage,
and the result is less readable in my opinion, so I am not happy with
this option.
