2 things that I forgot to mention:
a) I've already seen: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=285952 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155321 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94754 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=305471 but all of these existing bug reports either claim to be already resolved, or they are have not been modified in over 1 year. b) I normally don't use tasksel during installation of a clean machine (I just install the gnome-core package in aptitude) so I don't run the "power management daemon".
