I agree, it would be very nice to have the backup/restore scripts (renamed if necessary). Btw, chapter 5 of the gnu tar manual talks about these scripts extensively (implying they are a standard feature of tar), and I was quite puzzled because I couldn't find them anywhere in Debian.
