$ zcat /usr/share/doc/cron/examples/crontab2english.pl.gz|perldoc -F /dev/stdin
starts on the second head1, and also causes
"stty: standard input: Invalid argument"
One needs to do gnuzip it first. Also
$ perldoc -F nosuchfile
just returns 1 with no warning message.

Maybe =encoding is obsolete, or maybe this perlpod documentation is
not clear where to put it:
"=encoding encodingname"
This command is used for declaring the encoding of a document.
Most users won't need this; but if your encoding isn't US-ASCII or
Latin-1, then put a "=encoding encodingname" command early in the
document so that pod formatters will know how to decode the docu-
ment. For encodingname, use a name recognized by the Encode::Sup-
ported module. Examples:
=encoding utf8
...
(and the following paragraph,
And don't forget, when using any command, that the command lasts up
until the end of its paragraph, not its line...
makes one worry that one needs to repeat =encoding in many parts of
one's program.)
