Well this is potentially a problem, since Kicad uses wxWidgets and the
Debain package was built against (and only tested with) the version
available in the appropriate version of Debian. If you are using other
versions of a library like that you are in untested territory.

You don't really need to go to unstable (which, btw isn't really
unstable). However it's very likely to be a video driver bug, since
there is no graphics card specific code in Kicad, and it works fine on
all other cards it's been tested on. I don't have access to the same
video card as you to attempt to recreate this on, so I am not in a
position to debug it.

When the next upstream version of Kicad is released it'll be packaged
quickly, and it's looking like this may not be too far away now. Don't
expect this to fix your problem though. It's possible it's a Kicad
bug, but it's pretty unlikely (and even if it is, there is no reason
to assume it will have been fixed upstream, I've seen no reports of
this problem on the developer mailing lists or any relevant svn
commits).
