I don't get exactly the same behaviour, but the approach points to a work around. If I leave the mail.smtpserver.smtp1.username at the default value of "" (also provided by the Reset), i.e. no username, I cannot connect to the SMTP server. As soon as I provide the name of an existing user (basically myself) that works (without asking for a password).
