Hi, Just to report very similar behaviour when using clamav-daemon/clamav-freshclam from volatile, but a simple restart (after I was notified, an hour later) worked fine.

I'd rate this bug as serious (for my systems, at least), as it means that until fixed by hand mail was being rejected with a temporary error; while that's not a big issue for mail in general, we operate some internal servers that don't have their own mail queue and rely on handing off bulky mail (e.g., voicemail) to the server on the first attempt.
