If I understood this correctly, you mean that wide images break navigation because if you press right, you scroll right in the image instead of showing the next one, right?
If that's the case, I can't reproduce this. EOG actually opens the images scaled down to fit the window at a sane size, so there's no scrolling posible, and navigation works.
