Package: udev Version: 0.056-2 Severity: important
Hello, As said, the /dev/raw1394 and /dev/video1394/0 devices are not existent in a udev context. I understand this is because the ieee1394 driver doesn't yet export the correct sys/hotplug magic. In the meantime, it would be nice to have those devices added per default in links.conf, and the correct permissions set in permissions.rules. The ubuntu udev package has the first one right, but lacks some permissions for /dev/raw1394. The way it is configured to work is : $ cat /etc/udev/permissions.d/udev.permissions ... raw1394:root:video:0660 # When the kernel gets proper support for 1394, change this to a wildcard: video1394/0:root:video:0660 ... $ cat /etc/udev/linux.conf ... # Ubuntu fix - only here until the kernel gets real ieee1394 support M raw1394 c 171 0 D video1394 M video1394/0 c 171 16 ... I would clasify this a RC, but as we are so late in the game, i keep it as important and let it up to you. Having firewire webcams and DV digicams working out of the box in debian/sarge would be a nice thing though.
