I've been hoping this problem would go away, particularly since there
was a reference to its being a fixed upstream issue
(http://linuxtechie.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/getting-intel-ich8-family-rev-3-sound-card-to-work-in-gutsy/).
However, that page says it was fixed in 1.15, which is what I'm running
(also that report was for Ubuntu). Hmm.. I just noticed
/proc/asound/version (see below) says 1.14. Do I need a later kernel?
http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-hda-intel has
various advice, but I think that stuff is all being done by the
Debian infrastructure already (alsa, that page looks a bit dated,
maybe pre-udev).
Let me know if you need more information or have any suggestions.
