I wasn't really disagreeing with your opinion, and I don't have the authority to close the bug -- I'm only a Debian user, who uses the angband package, and happens to subscribe to the angband issues. I was trying to provide a few pieces of info for you, and the maintainer of the package. - The change exists upstream. - It is possible to communicate with upstream directly in their discussion forum (usenet group), eg. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.roguelike.angband/topics and the input would be welcomed (they don't read this bug tracker, I think). - There are gameplay concerns that make being at the edge of the panel likely to lead to death. - You may want to clarify the specific former behavior you would like to see restored. For what it's worth, you can acquire old versions (which might have your desired behavior) from http://angband.oook.cz/download.php and while building and installing it is moderately substandard for unix software, it's not entirely overwhelming.
