The bug reported below was the problem with Pine. It does not happen with
Alpine.
New title: Alpine just shows messages on GMX from the time it was first started
Report: Although I have more than a hundred messages in my GMX INBOX,
Alpine showed just four when I used it for the first time. Now it shows
those four and the two or three other which have arrived since --- but
they are all marked as New. The old ones never get shown.

The submitter has allowed me to reassign this bug to alpine, as it's
the sucessor of pine. However, this report needs to be re-explained
and probably retitled as well.
