Apparently this was removed because doc/gnulib.texi was non-free. However, I just looked at the current version in git and found that its licence statement is as follows: Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.1 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover Texts. A copy of the license is included in the section entitled ``GNU Free Documentation License.'' The licence statement on doc/gnulib-tool.texi, which we do distribute, is: Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover Texts. A copy of the license is included in the ``GNU Free Documentation License'' file as part of this distribution. The only difference is the version of the licence, and we could just choose to distribute everything under the terms of GFDL 1.2 if that's a problem. I looked back through git history and found that commit f890dce30d447be286789f452c133bf1ea1da033 (dated 3 Jan 2007) makes the following change to doc/gnulib.texi: Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.1 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no -Invariant Sections, with the Front-Cover Texts being ``A GNU Manual,'' -and with the Back-Cover Texts as in (a) below. A copy of the -license is included in the section entitled ``GNU Free Documentation -License.'' - -(a) The FSF's Back-Cover Text is: ``You have freedom to copy and modify -this GNU Manual, like GNU software. Copies published by the Free -Software Foundation raise funds for GNU development.'' [EMAIL PROTECTED] quotation +Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover +Texts. A copy of the license is included in the section entitled +``GNU Free Documentation License.'' It seems that there is no longer a need to remove this file and build a +dfsg version of the tarball. Daniel, when you next upload gnulib, could you please put this file back and arrange to run $(MAKE) -C doc and install the resulting documentation? Like Reuben I'd also find it very useful.
