Nope, it's not a libc6-i386 bug, which works correctly out of the box. The problem is that libnss-mdns modifies /etc/nsswitch.conf while it does not provide the 32-bit version of the library. Either remove libnss-mdns or install lib32nss-mdns to fix the problem. I am reassigning the bug to libnss-mdns, as it should either not set [NOTFOUND=return] in /etc/nsswitch.conf, or depends on lib32nss-mdns on biarch architectures. -- .''`.
