The gtkrc files for the murrine themes theme tooltips like this: widget "gtk-tooltips" style "theme-tooltips" which doesn't match the new tooltip widget in gtk+ 2.12. Replacing it with this: widget "gtk-tooltip*" style "theme-tooltips" matches both types of tooltip widget.
