Ok, I see.  I use wdm and I hacked /etc/X11/wdm/Xsession so it never
passes an argument to the real Xsession (except failsafe), so my
.xsession is _always_ used.

I think you're past the point where your configuration is supported in any way ;).

Exactly.  Actually it didn't use to be that way, but I saw it recommended
somewhere as I experimented with different wm's yesterday, and it struck me
as a good idea, because it means I can start clients only after the wm runs
and I never see the clients in half baked state without decorations.

Is there a good argument _against_ this "weirdness"? :-)

Not really, but I wouldn't use 'openbox-session' with it.
