I can't reproduce that here. Can you tell me what the symbolic link
/usr/bin/gvim points to? On my system it looks like:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2006-02-14 15:39 /usr/bin/gvim -> 
/etc/alternatives/gvim

And /etc/alternatives/gvim points to...

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2007-10-23 20:42 /etc/alternatives/gvim -> 
/usr/bin/vim.gtk
