Ah, that's actually what is supposed to happen.  If you then press the key you 
would like to use, it should bind and display that key text next to the button. 
 But obviously I need to make it more clear that it's waiting for you to press 
a key.

Close, but not quite. You click (with the mouse, or tab to and press
space) on one of the buttons, such as fire, and then text next to the
button disappears. Nothing else.

The difference is that it never asks what key you want to use to fire.
