FWIW, this is a known bug, but we're not entirely sure how best to handle it. It seems to sit a bit in limbo -- I should find maks again one day and work something out. It's not evms-bootdebug-specific, BTW -- it affects any EVMS usage (e.g. evms_activate) from initramfs.
