I cannot really reproduce that. If I enter first a bibtext entry like

@ARTICLE{Senyard,
  author = {Anthony Senyard and Martin Michlmayr},
  title = {Article 1}
}

and then open a new one and type "Michlmayr" I get "Michlmayr,
Martin" as a suggestion.
Only at one point I got a funny "Martin, $some_first_name"
auto-completion because of a different author in my file.

I guess the auto-completion guessing depends on
* which entries you already have and how they are formatted
* the settings in Options->Preferences->Entry table "Format of author
  and editor names"

I'll bring this question to upstream's attention nevertheless.
