Package: emacs22 Version: 22.1+1-1 Severity: wishlist The default install appears to have an audible bell enabled. It beeps for no good reason, such as whenever I press Ctrl-G. This is an evil usability misfeature that should IMHO be off by default.
To make matters worse the beep goes to the PC speaker and the volume cannot be controlled, short of blacklisting the pcspkr module. A workaround is to (setq visible-bell t), or perhaps set ring-bell-function. Please add this to the Debian default setup to save users from either going crazy or having to waste time customizing each install. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.23-rc3-lg (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=sv_SE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=sv_SE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages emacs22 depends on: ii emacs22-bin-common 22.1+1-1 The GNU Emacs editor's shared, arc ii libasound2 1.0.14a-2 ALSA library ii libc6 2.6.1-1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libice6 2:1.0.3-3 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-13 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libncurses5 5.6+20070716-1 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-2 PNG library - runtime ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libtiff4 3.8.2-7 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libungif4g 4.1.4-5 shared library for GIF images ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxmu6 1:1.0.3-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxpm4 1:3.5.6-3 X11 pixmap library ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library pn xaw3dg <none> (no description available) ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-5 compression library - runtime emacs22 recommends no packages. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
