Hi, I have the same problem described by Raphael, but I can't fix it as he did.
I have: ii texlive-common 2007-11 TeX Live: Base component as you asked. If I run "sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/texlive-common.postinst configure" I get this output + [ -r /etc/texmf/updmap.d/10tetex-base.cfg ] + [ -r /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf ] + [ -r /etc/texmf/language.d/00tetex.cnf ] + [ -r /etc/texmf/language.d/10tetex.cnf ] + exit 0 But the installation fails again after that. sh is not a symlink of bash in my system The output of the failed fmtutil-sys shows this summary: This is a summary of all `failed' messages and warnings: `pdftex -ini -jobname=latex -progname=latex -translate-file=cp227.tcx *latex.ini' possibly failed. `pdftex -ini -jobname=pdflatex -progname=pdflatex -translate-file=cp227.tcx *pdflatex.ini' possibly failed.
