Indeed, I can confirm that it is pmount -- ejecting a CD works perfectly
for a user _not_ in the plugdev group.  Thanks for the pointer;
reassigning the bug appropriately.

Vincent: The bug appears to have appeared between 0.9.16-1 (works as
expected) and 0.9.16-2 (fails, as does -3).  /cdrom is listed in fstab:

/dev/cdrom      /cdrom          iso9660 ro,user,noauto        0 0
