Maybe.  I took the box back offline, I'll try again next time it has a
network connection.

As I see it, I don't know anything about tex, so I can't have changed
anything that I shouldn't have.  I'm concerned that upgrades from
woody are affected, and will always experience whatever the source of
the problem is..
