Oh! Assuming you're using Gnome, you need to set your favorite Mail
Reader the Gnome way: System -> Preferences -> Favorite Applications .

Using "icedove" as a custom command will immediately start the mail
reader upon mail reception. I'd rather prefer being able to open the
mail reader by clicking on the system tray icon whenever I like to do so.

Oh! Then you need to change the status icon preferences:
Get into the mail-notification preferences -> Status Icon -> Click
Action and set it to Start Mail Reader.

Well, it's not really a problem. It only lacks a bit of comfort I had
before the split.

I'll wait for your confirmation but it seems the functionality is
still there, it's just not the default setting anymore.
