Oh! Assuming you're using Gnome, you need to set your favorite Mail Reader the Gnome way: System -> Preferences -> Favorite Applications .

Oh! Then you need to change the status icon preferences: Get into the mail-notification preferences -> Status Icon -> Click Action and set it to Start Mail Reader.
