It's was already set before.

I'll wait for your confirmation but it seems the functionality is
still there, it's just not the default setting anymore.
Similar to Gnome there's a Settings Menu "Preferred Applications" in the XFCE panel where the Mail Reader is set to "icedove". I didn't mentioned it before because according to the description it's only executed when clicking on appropriately formated mail addresses.

Apart form the setting above, is there a config-file which could be altered manually?
