Thus I can install the SC-reader driver _without_ pcscd.

Feel free to do as you want, but IMHO this still remains a bug.
Moreover, pcscd is not recommended neither suggested by the pcsc-tools
package.  And no, I don't want to check every single library a package
depends on to discover what I should install to use that specific
package.
