I suspect eog is not the only gnome application with this fault.
Nautilus also seems to have problems with *.JPG files.
If the filename is *.JPG, then eog will not open it.
>From the command line, eog will load but not load the image. No errors
given.
If I try to load it from nautilus, I get the error:
Cannot open IMG_5149.JPG
The filename "IMG_5149.JPG" indicates that this file is of type
"JPG document". The contents of the file indicate that the file
is of type "JPEG image". If you open this file, the file might
present a security risk to your system.
Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or
received the file from a trusted source. To open the file,
rename the file to the correct extension for "JPEG image", then
open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu
to choose a specific application for the file.
(I am not sure what program displays this)
The work around is to rename the file to IMG_5149.JPG to IMG_5149.jpg.
This is stupid. *.JPG should be just as valid for jpeg files as *.jpg.
(note: the files where copied from VFAT flash with uppercase names,
the flash being produced by my digital camera).
