This might be caused by the LSB function deleting the pid file too
early. This is a bug in lsb-base, see #410622.

Can you try commenting out the last "rm -f "$pidfile"" in killproc in
/lib/lsb/init-functions and try to reproduce the bug? On my test
system, everything is fine.
