Could I get the opinion of the Pilot maintainer? It would be nice to know at
least why it's so much bigger. If they're good reasons, then I'll feel less
bad closing the bug as wontfix. (-:

It may be that it includes stuff it doesn't need. If you find you can
build it without some of the libraries please let us know. This Alpine
version of pilot uses Unicode internally so it does use some of the
routines from the utf8 library that Mark mentioned. It also has many
different calls from the previous version because it was substantially
rewritten for the unicode support. I don't find it very surprising that it
is larger.
