That usually means that an old process wasn't successfully killed by the
init script. Can you look and make sure you don't have an old process
still running?

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps auxw | grep clamav
clamav 1322 0.0 3.5 58304 36880 ? Ss 2006 6:13 /usr/ sbin/clamd clamav 1368 0.0 0.1 5408 1440 ? Ss 2006 0:02 /usr/ bin/freshclam -p /var/run/clamav/freshclam.pid -d --quiet tim 32356 0.0 0.0 1572 520 ttyp0 R+ 16:54 0:00 grep clamav
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

That's it! Thanks!

I have an idea why the old process isn't getting killed off now, but it
would help if I was sure that's the issue you're having.

Seems to be it. Killing them solves the issue. Now why didn't I check that before filing a bugreport :|

Starting the daemon gives me the following message:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon start
Starting ClamAV daemon: clamdLibClamAV Warning: ******************************************************** LibClamAV Warning: *** This version of the ClamAV engine is outdated. *** LibClamAV Warning: *** DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/ faq.html *** LibClamAV Warning: ********************************************************
.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Although it seems to run without problems.
