Hi Sean, when I uninstall php4-imap I then get this message:
PHP Warning: Unknown(): Unable to load dynamic library
'/usr/lib/php4/20050606+lfs/imap.so' -
/usr/lib/php4/20050606+lfs/imap.so: cannot open shared object file: No
such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
In either case I'm not sure if the PHP4 IMAP functionality works - I
tried it with SquirrelMail and have no problems logging in (I assume
that uses the built-in libraries but I could be wrong).

My log files have been full of these messages about a missing IMAP

hm... sounds like the php-imap module may have accidentally been
compiled into the php4-cgi engine. if you uninstall the php4-imap
module, do (a) the error messages go away and (b) imap functions
still work?
