Package: pulseaudio-module-hal Version: 0.9.5-2 Severity: important This is the behavior out of the box (actually I have already added myself to the pulse-rt group, out of the box there was a bit more complaining):
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> LANG=C pulseaudio -v -v caps.c: dropping root rights. module-hal-detect.c: Trying capability 0 (alsa) module-alsa-sink.c: Failed to set hardware parameters: Operation not permitted module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-sink" (argument: "device=hw:0 sink_name=alsa_output.pci_1412_1724_alsa_playback_0"): initialization failed. Muistialueen ylitys With English locales the last message is spelled "Segmentation fault", I believe. To have pulseaudio working, I have to fiddle with /etc/pulse/default.pa. I comment out the hal line and uncomment the "load-module module-alsa-*" lines. I get some progress: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> LANG=C pulseaudio -v -v caps.c: dropping root rights. pid.c: stale PID file, overwriting. alsa-util.c: device doesn't support 44100 Hz, changed to 48000 Hz. alsa-util.c: Using mixer control "PCM". sink.c: created 0 "alsa_output.default" with sample spec "s16le 2ch 48000Hz" source.c: created 0 "alsa_output.default.monitor" with sample spec "s16le 2ch 48000Hz" module-alsa-sink.c: using 3 fragments of size 4096 bytes. module.c: Loaded "module-alsa-sink" (index: #0; argument: ""). module-alsa-source.c: Error opening PCM device plughw:1,0: No such file or directory module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-source" (argument: "device=plughw:1,0"): initialization failed. main.c: Module load failed. main.c: failed to initialize daemon. module.c: Unloading "module-alsa-sink" (index: #0). sink.c: freed 0 "alsa_output.default" source.c: freed 0 "alsa_output.default.monitor" module.c: Unloaded "module-alsa-sink" (index: #0). main.c: Daemon terminated. Now it fails to open a capturing device. Maybe I should submit another bug for that, but I'm not sure if it counts as a bug if some comment contains stuff that doesn't work uncommented everywhere. Anyway, I don't care since I don't need pulseaudio for recording. Recommenting the "load-module module-alsa-source device=plughw:1,0" line makes pulseaudio work, wehee! However, the reason for installing pulseaudio in the first place was to have jack output for gstreamer apps. The story continues in the bug page of pulseaudio-module-jack...
