Package: giflib Severity: wishlist Hi,
As you may know the upstream maintainers of libungif have also taken over maintenance of giflib: http://sourceforge.net/projects/libungif The two sources are now identical except for the LZW compression capability in giflib and minor changelog and name differences in the source infrastructure. It would be nice to have an up-to-date giflib in Debian that corresponded to the current libungif package. Among other things, it would reduce the likelihood of old bugs turning up in Debian's giflib packages that have been fixed already in libungif/giflib 4.x. (Cf. #395382 that I just submitted.)
