I see a few things I dislike in the debian directory, such as dpatch support 
removing
and a custom target in the rules file. If you need to manage upstream
updates, a watch file is the debian way, not custom rules. Also the
changelog does not list changes done in the package which is deprecated
and requires maintainers to diff among versions.
So, please DO NOT upload and wait for a more appropriate package.
