This could be solved by something like:
TryExec=/var/run/gdm.pid
in the .desktop files.

However it seems that gnome-vfs doesn't respect the freedesktop
specification, as not only does it verify the file exists, but it also
checks that it is executable. The fix for gnome-vfs is easy.

Ryan, if you agree with this solution, I can push the appropriate fix in
gnome-vfs.
