If anyone manages to rewrite the gconf-schemas and update-gconf-defaults scripts in perl, *and* if I can decently understand and maintain these scripts, I will be happy to replace the current scripts with the provided ones. Currently, these scripts allow us to make all GConf-related packages comply with the FHS and to ease their maintainability. There is no way that we can remove this functionality. > I'm not sure but IMHO such "new dependencies" should be against debian policy. > What if libc6 guys decide to write some post-install script-helper with > JavaBeanShell ? Python is one of the supported languages for the GNOME platform. It is expected that a typical GNOME installation requires python anyway. Of course, trying to save dependencies is a good thing, but not at the price of maintainability. -- .''`.
