I am packaging HPLIP 1.6.7 (1.6.6a was not really fit for release), and both 0.9.11 and 1.6.7 seem to work reasonably well with CUPS 1.2.2-1. For 0.9.11, you *may* indeed have problems to install the printer, doing it by force directly in the conf files should work -- but once installed, it will work. What issues you're having?
