Be careful, the Debian package is rottemn in many aspects. It contains several Debian introduced bugs that _partially_ cancel each other. I recommend to test the original: ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/ latest version is 2.01.01a11, it also contains the features that Debian likes to hide from its users.... Note that you _need_ to install cdrecord suid root! If _cannot_ work correctly otherwise.
