It almost always works on reload.  Always on second reload.

No.  I have a lot of dice.com stuff, because I did read a bunch of ads from
it both before and after getting that.  I'll check the next time I have a
lookup failure on a more-unique site and mail you all the entries.

Well, /etc/resolv.conf contains only 192.168.2.1, my wireless router.  That
one uses my cable ISP's (Optimum Online's) name servers.  Unfortunately, the
web interface for this doesn't let me find out what it's actually using, and
it isn't a LinkSys (so I can't just log in to the shell).

Shall I define a name server or three for the cable modem and see if that
solves the problem?  I mean, I run one myself (nitpicking.com) so it isn't a
strain.
